Innovators, researchers, and technology leaders are invited to hear from the experts at a special intellectual property and funding event at Space Park Leicester on Wednesday 19 November.
Powering Growth Through Funding & Protecting Your Innovation, will take place at 2pm, an hour before Cosmic Coffee: Towards COP 30 – Climate, Collaboration and the Power of Observation.
The 60-minute session will explore how businesses in the space and technology sectors can leverage intellectual property (IP) and funding opportunities to accelerate growth, secure investment, and commercialise breakthrough ideas.
This session will appeal to start-ups, scale-ups and corporates across all technology sectors including engineering, automotive, sports, innovative scientific companies and life sciences that wish to protect their innovation strategically, secure funding for research and development (R&D) and growth, and gain insight from real-world success stories.
The University of Leicester’s Commercial Team will be in attendance to share real examples of how innovators within their community have approached protecting and leveraging their IP. Attendees will discover the different paths spin-out companies have taken, from patent portfolios to know-how strategies, and learn what this means for start-ups considering their own journey.
Industry experts including Nick Silvester, Partner at IP Asset and Craig Walsh, Founder of One Fifteen, will also share insights into how to secure funding, build value, and protect ideas.
Craig Walsh, Founder of One Fifteen, which helps organisations unlock grants and investment for innovation, skills and infrastructure projects, said: “Too many great ideas fail to reach their potential because innovators don’t fully understand how to protect or fund their work. This session is designed to make those pathways clearer by giving people the tools and confidence to take their innovation further.”
Nick Silvester, UK and European patent attorney at IP Asset, specialists in IP protection and commercialisation strategies, added: “Intellectual property isn’t just about patents, it’s about building value and securing long-term advantage. We’ll be sharing strategies that help businesses control their ideas and use them to attract the right partners and investors.”
Following the session, attendees are encouraged to stay for Cosmic Coffee: Towards COP 30,
where researchers, industry professionals and students will come together to discuss how space science and innovation can drive progress towards global climate goals.
Both events will take place at Space Park Leicester, the University of Leicester’s £100 million space research and innovation hub, 92 Corporation Road, Leicester, LE4 5SP on Wednesday 19 November beginning with IP Funding from 2pm to 3pm, followed by Cosmic Coffee from 3pm to 4pm.
Both events are free to attend and people are under no obligation to attend both but are asked to confirm attendance using this link: https://luma.com/3q9ulh0e (IP Funding) and via Space Park Leicester’s Eventbrite page for Cosmic Coffee COP30.
