Space industry invited to help empower the next generation

Space Park Leicester is calling on companies within the UK’s vibrant space sector to host a student micro-intern this autumn as part of the University of Leicester’s Micro-Internship Programme.
Running from October to November 2025, talented undergraduate students will be placed into short-term, impactful roles across a four-week period. Each student will dedicate eight to ten hours per week, volunteering on a specific business challenge or project, designed to generate tangible value for the host company.
For companies focused on satellite applications, Earth observation, data science, space hardware, or downstream commercialisation, this provides an ideal opportunity to tap into student creativity and contribute to shaping the space workforce of the future.
Space Park Leicester is a community at the forefront of the UK space sector, established through a partnership led by the University of Leicester. A world-leading cluster for innovative research, enterprise and education in space and Earth observation, Space Park Leicester represents a collaborative hub for industry and academia to develop and grow.
Vinay Patel, Head of Commercial and Innovation at Space Park Leicester, said:
“These internships provide meaningful insight for both students and businesses. Students gain real-world exposure and develop essential employability skills, while hosts benefit from dedicated support on valuable business challenges. We’re particularly keen to see more companies from the space sector take part this year.”

Each internship should be structured around a defined project that delivers a useful output for the business — examples might include digital analysis, technical research, content creation, or feasibility reports. Projects can be conducted remotely, in-person, or in a hybrid format, offering full flexibility for businesses of all sizes and locations.
Organisations interested in hosting a micro-intern are encouraged to express their interest by Friday 5th September 2025. Full guidance on how to apply will follow upon registration.
