Businesses had the opportunity to discover how artificial intelligence is accelerating engineering-led innovations at a special event at Space Park Leicester.
Around 50 organisations from across the East Midlands attended the latest AI Breakfast Club, sponsored by Barclays Eagle Labs and Twin Path Ventures, at the University of Leicester’s £100m space research, innovation and teaching hub.
It was the first time the event – which has become one of London’s most popular monthly gatherings for AI founders, builders and innovators – had been held in the Midlands.

Space Park Leicester Head of Commercial and Innovation, Vinay Patel, said:
“We were delighted to host this special edition of the AI Breakfast Club which explored how artificial intelligence is transforming engineering, space and the physical sciences.
“The event was very well attended and it was great to listen to thought-provoking discussions and see how brilliant minds are bridging the gap between AI and the final frontier.
“It was particularly interesting to learn how robotics, agritech and defence are shaped and how they are expected to change in the near future.”
The AI Breakfast Club showcased regional AI capability, introduced organisations to research and finance expertise and included opportunities for networking.
Other highlights included a war games exercise run by defence tech start-up Shield Space, which is developing systems to protect satellites from signal jamming or attack. Businesses were presented with a scenario in which communications had been knocked out during a wartime scenario and they were challenged to come up with responses that addressed the problem.
Attendees also had the opportunity to tour Space Park Leicester’s facilities which are home to organisations developing space technology, data-driven services and future space and Earth observation missions.
Space Park Leicester recently launched a programme that gives organisations the opportunity to hire its award-winning building for events.
Organisations can take advantage of the venue – including its striking 350sqm atrium which is surrounded by satellite models and Luke Jerram’s awe-inspiring ‘Gaia’ artwork of planet Earth – to stage all types of events including staff away days, exhibitions, receptions, launches and conferences for up to 200 people.
