Dallas Campbell to speak at Space Park Leicester

The face of some of the UK’s most high-profile science television shows will visit Space Park Leicester to give a free talk exploring the history and material culture of space exploration.
Dallas Campbell is best known for presenting the BBC’s Stargazing Live, Bang Goes the Theory, The Sky at Night Question Time, Supersized Earth, and City in the Sky programmes and Channel 5’s The Gadget Show.
And next month, the popular author, podcast host and actor will visit the University of Leicester’s £100m space research, innovation and teaching hub to talk about his latest book, ‘Space Journal: Art, Science and Cosmic Exploration’.
Alex Wheldon, Head of Strategic Marketing and Communications at Space Park Leicester, said: “Dallas’ new book features more than 500 images, from the 17th century to the present day, which celebrate our perception of the cosmos and our efforts to reach it.
“It brings together scientists, writers, artists and visionaries, from Galileo to the new space race, and explores the notebooks, sketches, and extraordinary objects that reveal how humanity imagined its way to the stars.
“There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the release of this book and we’re thrilled that Dallas is visiting Space Park Leicester to talk about this celebration of space exploration.”
Dallas has previously written two books on space history and his work has taken him around the world, giving audiences a rare backstage glimpse into how our modern, technological world really works – from space exploration to the hidden infrastructure we rely on every day.
His talk at Space Park Leicester will be part of the Space Park Conservations series of free talks and is being promoted through the organisation’s partnership with the Leverhulme Centre for Humanity and Space.
Andrew Futter, Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Humanity and Space, said: "We are thrilled to welcome Dallas to Space Park Leicester.
“Dallas' visit highlights our commitment to bringing leading voices to our community and creating opportunities for meaningful discussion and learning at the Leverhulme Centre for Humanity and Space.”
Copies of ‘Space Journal: Art, Science and Cosmic Exploration’ will be on sale at the event, which will take place from 2pm to 3pm on Thursday, April 16, and there will be an opportunity for attendees to have their copies signed by Dallas.
