Space Park Leicester invites industry leaders to networking lunch with Canadian business delegation

Space Park Leicester is inviting industry leaders to exchange ideas with their Canadian counterparts at a networking lunch taking place in March.

Your chance to network with like-minded Canadian businesses

The event will provide an opportunity for UK-based space sector professionals to meet and connect with a delegation of Canadian business leaders who are visiting the UK to learn more about the thriving space industry here.

The lunch on Tuesday, 7 March will take place at Space Park Leicester, a state-of-the-art facility that is home to some of the UK’s leading space companies and research institutions, between 1pm and 2pm. Attendees will have the chance to network and exchange ideas as well as learn about the latest developments in the Space sector and potential opportunities for collaboration.

Vinay Patel, Commercial Manager at Space Park Leicester said: “”We are thrilled to host this networking lunch and provide an opportunity for UK-based industry leaders to connect with their Canadian counterparts as part of their visit to Space Park Leicester.

“The space sector is a global industry, and we believe that this event will help to foster new partnerships and collaborations between our two countries.”

Organised by the Department for Business and Trade, the UK in Canada visit aims to help Canadian space companies understand the UK space market and support their plans for growth in the UK.

Raymond Enone, Senior Investment Officer from the British Consulate-General Montreal said: “It is great to lead a delegation of Canadian business executives on a space investment mission to the UK from 4-11 March, 2023. We are building on the success from last year’s highly-praised investment mission that involved visits to London, Oxford, Newport (South Wales), Leicester, and Edinburgh.

“This year’s cohort will be visiting London, Leicester, Warrington, Edinburgh and Oxford to explore and learn more about the UK’s thriving space ecosystem. Space Park Leicester presents a high potential opportunity for space investment, innovation, and partnership opportunities. Canada-UK collaboration in the space sector is valuable and I hope the Canadian delegation will get to see the scope of growth opportunities in the UK space sector.”

The UK space sector is one of the most dynamic and innovative in the world and is a key contributor to the country’s economy. The sector currently employs around 42,000 people and generates an annual turnover of £14.8 billion.

Mike Denby, Director of Inward Investment and Place Marketing at Leicester City Council said: “We are extremely proud of the superb asset that Space Park Leicester brings to the City and have big ambitions for this area to ensure Leicester is on the UK map as a key hub for space related industries. I’m delighted that the delegates from Canada have chosen to visit Leicester to explore the fantastic opportunities on offer.”

During their visit, the delegation will have the opportunity to tour the Space Park Leicester facilities, meet with leading UK space companies and researchers, and learn about the latest developments in the industry.

Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: “I’m very pleased to welcome the Canadian delegation to Leicester, and to see that Space Park Leicester is already attracting global interest and bringing potential international investment into our city.”

Since opening in Spring 2022, the £100 million state-of-the art facility has already attracted a host of the world’s leading space-related companies, including global IT and consulting firm CGI and Rolls-Royce, the UK leaders on creating mechanical, electrical and nuclear power solutions in space.
