Major event in Leicester will help produce roadmap for UK space science

Leading figures from the UK’s space science community will take part in an event in Leicester next month that will help create a roadmap to guide the future of the sector.

Space Park Leicester, the University of Leicester’s £100m space research, innovation and teaching hub, will be the venue for the UK Space Frontiers 2035: Astronomy, Planetary & Helio community engagement event.

Professor John Bridges, of Space Park Leicester and the University of Leicester’s School of Physics and Astronomy, is on the SpaceFrontiers2035 Steering Committee.

He said: “We’re delighted to host this large community event spanning astronomy, space, helio and planetary sciences at Space Park Leicester.

“Community engagement is central to ensuring that the UK’s future space science priorities are aligned across the UK Space Agency and UKRI, and is evidence-based, inclusive and representative and aligned with national capability and international opportunities.

“More than 100 white papers have been submitted to help guide the future of UK space science and this meeting will enable feedback on the process of producing a final report for the Government and the UK Space Agency.”

The event, which is expected to attract more than 100 attendees from across the UK, will be held on Wednesday, April 15, in-person at Space Park Leicester and online. It will give delegates the opportunity to hear insights about the UK Space Frontiers 2035: Astronomy, Planetary & Helio initiative and contribute feedback to the next phase of the programme.

Individuals who want to attend the event should register their interest by Tuesday, March 31, at https://forms.office.com/r/V24a2ASgbA
