Space Park Leicester highlighted in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027
Space Park Leicester has been highlighted as an example of the University of Leicester’s longstanding commitment to space research in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027.
The latest rankings place the University of Leicester 31st in the UK and among the top three universities in the East Midlands, with the Guide recognising Leicester’s established strengths in space research and innovation.
Highlighting Space Park Leicester, the Guide says: “Space research is a longstanding commitment. Leicester hosts the £100 million Space Park, opened by the astronaut Tim Peake in 2022.”
The report points to Space Park Leicester’s potential economic impact, noting that the facility is forecast to contribute £750 million to the UK space sector over the next decade and support the creation of 2,500 jobs in the East Midlands.
Space Park Leicester is the University of Leicester’s £100 million space research and innovation hub, bringing together academics and industry to drive collaboration, accelerate innovation and develop the technologies and skills needed for the future space economy.
Opened by British astronaut Tim Peake in 2022, Space Park Leicester is home to world-leading research, state-of-the-art facilities and a growing community of organisations working across the space sector.
The Guide also highlights the University’s continued exploration of the relationship between space and society through the Leverhulme Centre for Humanity and Space, established following a £10 million investment.
The Times recognition reflects Leicester’s distinctive position as a place where decades of academic expertise in space science are being connected with industry, innovation and economic growth.
The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027 provides a comprehensive assessment of UK higher education, considering measures including teaching and student experience, research quality, continuation rates, graduate prospects and sustainability.
