Action-packed space holiday club is coming to Leicester

An action-packed week filled with rockets, drones, space missions, simulator flying, and real aerospace challenges for young people will touch down at Space Park Leicester this summer.

British Young Pilots will bring its Space City Club to the University of Leicester’s £100m space research, innovation and teaching hub in August to give young people who love aviation, engineering, technology, or dream of space exploration, a week they will not want to miss.

Designed especially for curious young minds, students will step into the role of astronauts, mission planners, rocket engineers, drone pilots and space navigators, and tackle exciting hands-on challenges inspired by the real aerospace world.

Space Park Leicester Education and Outreach Officer, Josh Barker, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming British Young Pilots’ Space City Club which will combine hands-on learning with plenty of fun.

“During the week, the participants will have the chance to build and launch rockets, fly drones and complete aerial challenges, plan Moon and Mars missions, experience simulator flying, learn navigation and mission control skills and explore weather, space science, and aerospace technology.

“Through these activities they will also develop teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving skills.”

Space City Club is open to young people aged from 11 to 16 and will run daily between 9am and 4pm from Monday, August 3, to Friday, August 7.

Each day will focus on a different exciting space and aviation theme, combining practical activities, teamwork, simulator experiences, and mission-based challenges.

The five themes are ‘Artemis Mission Day’, ‘Rockets Day’, ‘Space Navigation and Pilot Missions’, ‘Drones Lab Day’ and ‘Meteorology and Space Weather Day’. Alongside the themed activities, students will also enjoy hands-on simulator flying.
